Dan Vanderveen

Clinical LPC Candidate

With a deep passion for the outdoors and a strong foundation in mental health counseling, Dan brings a unique blend of adventure and therapeutic insight to his work. His career has taken him from the waves of the Pacific to the backcountry wilderness, where he has guided individuals through both physical and personal challenges.

Dan’s journey began as an outdoor guide, leading kayaking, snorkeling, and surf instruction tours while ensuring both safety and an enriching experience for guests. His expertise in paddling techniques, wilderness survival, and environmental education made him a trusted leader in the field. Whether navigating the rugged coastline in a sea kayak or teaching marine ecology, Dan has always been committed to fostering a deep connection between people and nature.
Building upon his leadership in outdoor education, Dan transitioned into the field of therapeutic programming. As a wilderness therapy guide and program mentor, he worked closely with young adults, teaching resilience, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation through immersive outdoor experiences. His ability to balance structure with compassionate guidance helped individuals build confidence and develop new skills in challenging environments.

Now pursuing a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, Dan is excited to bring his knowledge and experience to Pacific Quest as a clinical intern. He looks forward to working closely with residents, supporting their personal growth, and integrating experiential and nature-based approaches into the therapeutic process. Passionate about the intersection of nature and healing, Dan believes in the power of experiential therapy to foster lasting change and is eager to contribute to the transformative work being done at Pacific Quest.
