A Therapeutic Vacation For Your Whole Family

PQ offers a enhanced Family Intensive because we know from both research and heartfelt feedback from our families, that when they grow together, the outcomes are stronger and longer lasting. Families who have participated in these intensives routinely describe it as “transformative,” “reconnecting,” and one of the “turning points” in their family’s healing journey. At PQ we’ve reimagined family involvement as a transformational, retreat-style experience to deepen healing and repair emotional bonds.

What’s included in the family intensive?

Each family’s experience is individualized to meet their specific goals.

PREPARATION

(3 one-hour virtual sessions)

Session 1: Understanding Our Model – The Why Behind Our Approach Session

2: Building a Foundation – Boundaries, Rules & Expectations Session

3: Communication Tools – The Healthy Interactions Model

IMMERSIVE RETREAT

(3 days on-site in Hilo)

Guided family therapy & coaching sessions

Powerful experiences: family sculpture, timeline mapping, parent processing groups

Experiential activities: Aloha ʻĀina project, shared meals, meaningful outings

INTEGRATION

(3 one-hour virtual sessions post-visit)

Session 1: Debrief + Emotional Processing

Session 2: Adjusting Boundaries at Home

Session 3: Sustaining Healthy Interactions

What If We Choose Not to Participate in the Family Intensive?

The Family Intensive is a valuable, optional enhancement but it is not required. There are still meaningful ways to stay involved in your child’s healing journey. If your family chooses not to participate in the intensive, you are still encouraged to:

Participate in the standard family therapy sessions and family services offered (Learn More here)

  • Arrange on-site visits and family sessions in collaboration with your family’s treatment team
  • Ask us for anything we can do to creatively support your goals.

To help families plan accordingly, please note that the Family Intensive fee does not cover the following:

  • Travel to and from Hilo, Hawaiʻi
  • Transportation during the intensive
  • Lodging
  • All meals outside of specified programming
  • Other ancillary costs

We are of course happy to provide local lodging and transportation recommendations upon request to help make your planning process seamless.
