What is Wilderness Therapy?
At Pacific Quest, Wilderness Therapy is much more than a standard or generalized therapeutic process. It‘s a holistic approach to health and wellness that goes far beyond any other traditional Wilderness Therapy program.
Our Wilderness Therapy program offers hope to families by teaching students sustainable life skills and whole-person wellness. Based in an experiential outdoor classroom, students learn life lessons that empower them to make healthy choices for themselves, their family and their community.
The Wilderness Therapy Approach
Pacific Quest is the only outdoor-based therapy program with a truly integrated medical and wellness team working in tandem with the students, their primary therapist, referring professionals (as applicable) and parents to address and manage the clinical and medical complexity of each adolescent or young adult.
Our model approach to behavioral therapy utilizes a neurodevelopmental treatment technique. This technique, combined with horticultural therapy, provides multiple opportunities to achieve emotional health and well-being for our students.
We focus on combining the calming effect of natural surroundings with the support of individualized therapy. Sustainable, practical life skills are taught, practiced and mastered. These skills include, but are not limited to: time management, goal setting, organization, planning, community living, exercise habits, meal planning, cooking and self-care.
Through a variety of therapeutic modalities such as behavioral therapies, family systems and mind-body expressive therapy methods, our approach redefines behavioral therapy and motivates change.
