Teresa Bertoncin, LPCC, LMFT
Teresa is a licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is a certified EMDR Therapist, and also has advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples and Family Therapy (EFT). Teresa earned her undergraduate degree from University of Michigan, and her Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, and her thesis focused on trauma and rites of passage work.
Teresa’s passion is working with adolescents, young adults and families through phase of life transitions. Much of her professional experience has been dedicated to the treatment of at-risk youth in a multitude of settings. Teresa brings issues into focus with a trauma informed, person centered, relational perspective. Her areas of skill & expertise include trauma and PTSD; sexual and psychological abuse; grief and loss; family readjustment issues; substance use disorders; depression and anxiety; cultural issues and intergenerational family systems. In addition to EMDR and attachment based emotionally focused family therapy, Teresa has extensive training in sandplay therapy, biofeedback, neuropsychology, and permaculture techniques – a perfect blend for her role at Pacific Quest!
Prior to joining the PQ team, Teresa spent two years in South Africa where she served in the Peace Corps as a psychosocial trainer and consultant. She led a team of social workers who developed & established a fully accredited diversion program for youth in conflict with the law, with a strong emphasis in wilderness leadership. Teresa also conducted psychotherapy training for trauma-based organizations in Swaziland, and provided trauma therapy, advocacy and life-skills training for Zimbabwean refugees and people living with and affected by HIV in high transmission areas. She believes that creating meaningful connection is the cornerstone of healing.
Formerly a collegiate gymnast, Teresa owned and operated a gymnastics academy for 20 years, and incorporates strength-based psychotherapy with strength-based coaching techniques for a whole-person mind-body approach to establishing resiliency, empowerment and sustainable life skills. Teresa enjoys gardening, beekeeping, hiking, outrigger canoe paddling, travel, yoga, and her beautiful children.
We love Teresa and miss her terribly. She was spot on with our daughter and gave her fabulous attention and made a huge impact on all of us!
