The primary responsibility of the Integrative Psychiatrist is to conduct psychiatric evaluations and provide collaborative and integrative psychiatric medical management for the students of Pacific Quest. The Integrative Psychiatrist is involved in the admissions process and course of psychiatric treatment throughout assigned students’ stay at Pacific Quest. The Integrative Psychiatrist will act as primary therapist for a caseload of up to 2 students under the direct supervision of the Clinical Director. As primary therapist, the employee establishes and monitors treatment goals and objectives, guides program staff in the intervention and monitoring process, and conducts clinical activities. Clinical activities include psychosocial diagnostic assessment, individual, group and family therapy, horticultural therapy (HT), crisis intervention and support, safety planning, professional documentation of activities, and care coordination involving the student, designated family members, collaborating professionals, and the PQ team. The Integrative Psychiatrist reports to the medical director and clinical director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide integrative psychiatric evaluations for designated Pacific Quest students
- Meet with Pacific Quest students on an as needed basis for psychiatric medication management
- Consult with home psychiatrists and clinical professionals
- Collaborate with an integrative treatment team composed of Naturopathic Doctor and clinical therapists
- Ensure completion of concurrent psychiatric evaluations and chart notes for current and future placement; all documentation is completed within 24 hours of encounter
- Consult with the parents of Pacific Quest students
- Conduct chart reviews for all current students
- Review applications of incoming students as requested by Medical Director
- Contact current providers within application intake process
- Write medication prescriptions for the current Pacific Quest students
- Collaborate with Clinical and Medical directors on the continued development of PQs integrative model
- Establish systems for an integrative review of student psychiatric care on a weekly basis in coordination with Medical Director, clinical team, field teams, and wellness department members
- Schedule and attend regular supervision meetings with Medical Director.
- Minimum requirements for therapy:
- Two face-to-face, individual therapy sessions per week (average 45- 50 minutes each).
- One parent/family therapy session per week by conference call (may be video conference with student, or face-to-face during family visit).
- Letter writing is encouraged and integrated into the therapy process, consistent with the program curriculum, parent manual and the student’s treatment objectives.
- Document all clinical activities in a timely and professional manner– therapy notes are due within 48 hours of the session.
- Complete psychosocial diagnostic assessments on assigned students, including self-report/interview, records review, mental status evaluation, DSM 5 diagnosis, and integrated summary within 10 days of arrival. Submit to Clinical Director for review.
- Develop comprehensive treatment plan and weekly treatment plan updates in accordance with established PQ guidelines.
- Serve as Case Manager for assigned students. Remain informed about the student’s progress in all areas of PQ program (e.g., academics, health and wellness, program milestones, transition, etc.) and communicates effectively with others. Provide weekly updates to family members and referrals sources as indicated and documents all activities in a timely manner.
- Facilitate transition planning throughout the student’s stay in collaboration with all team members. Complete and disseminate discharge recommendations two weeks before discharge. Submit discharge summaries for review within one week from discharge (or sooner as indicated) in accordance with established PQ guidelines.
- Provide exceptional and responsive customer service to all referrals sources, students, family members, and other stakeholders. Maintain boundaries and flexibility in interactions.
- Schedule and attend regular supervision meetings with Clinical Director. Utilize supervision and consultation on an ongoing basis to determine action plans and to enhance clinical effectiveness.
- Available via phone, email or instant messaging throughout the week for student case consultation
- Available to follow prescriptions throughout the week for students
- Available on-call via phone on a rotating basis for crisis management and psychiatric intake case review

- Ability to work independently
- Must maintain a medical license in the State of Hawaii
- Must be a board certified psychiatrist in the State of Hawaii

- FT, 5 days a week, 3-4 days on site (1-2 days in Kau), 40+ hours; as needed throughout the week for calls, chart notes completion or consultation

Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, sitting, standing and walking, may be required for long periods of time and may involve climbing stairs, walking up inclines and on uneven terrain.
