PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Pacific Quest is an outdoor therapeutic program for struggling teens and young adults, located on the Big Island of Hawaii. Pacific Quest offers a clinical, yet holistic approach to treatment, moving beyond traditional wilderness therapy and teaching sustainable life skills.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

To oversee all aspects of Field Operations when on duty and/or on-call and to ensure safety/risk management, quality of program, and team morale are prioritized.  Promote Pacific Quest Mission and Guiding Principles by having a sustained presence in the field to facilitate in the moment role modeling, guidance and training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure program safety at all times including risk management assessment and crisis management
  • Administrative Duties as assigned by Program Manager and Director
  • Management of Red, Yellow, and Orange Alerts as well as upkeep and oversight of Safety and Emergency Watches in conjunction with Manager on Call
  • Effectively transition students into the program: intake, set-up, relationship build, transition to residence
  • Oversee House Supervisors, Program Guides, Overnight Guides:
    • Oversee new guide orientation, training, and development
    • Maintain and upkeep Program Guide growth books
    • Benefits and recognition
    • Performance reviews
    • Work with HR to ensure complete/up to date employee files at all times
  • Overseeing intake / outfitting process and training house supervisors as necessary to assist
  • Support the Program Manager administratively as assigned
  • Ensure proper policy and procedures being followed in the field
  • Spend the majority of time in the field role modeling, teaching and leading intervention work
  • Know and support the use of student curriculum
  • Facilitate Weekly Program Leadership Team meeting
  • Run and/or oversee running of inservice meetings on guide switch out days.
    • Conduct and/or coordinate regular trainings, maintain inservice training calendar
    • Debrief departing staff, identify areas of growth and future goals for development
    • Debrief and ensure appropriate documentation from the previous week’s incidents
  • Guide and house supervisor supervision, training, and support, including documentation of disciplinary action under the direction of Program Director and Manager
    • Hold larger picture growth for Guide mentor team
    • Training oversight and point person for Apprentice level guides, including facilitation and documentation of 90-day reviews
  • Collaborate with other field managers to ensure cohesiveness, provide feedback, manage program quality control, and follow-through on tasks
  • Program development; maintain, update systems related to field safety and routines, staff base protocols and storage
  • Ensure that field documentation is thorough and complete in a timely fashion – including BestNotes student observations, Incident Reports, and other essential documentation
  • Direct collaboration with other Field Managers and House Supervisors to provide support and supervision of guides and overnight guides, and students
  • Collaborate and assist with student movement coordination as assigned
  • Vehicle arrangements for transportation of students
  • Directing and reporting disciplinary actions as needed
  • Flexibility with overtime hours when crisis situations mandate
  • Flexibility to cover supervisor and other manager responsibilities and schedule on an as needed basis
  • Manager on-call duties
  • Certified in and support/lead trainings on Nonviolent Crisis Intervention
  • Specific focus areas of responsibility as assigned may include facilities, farm/land, AD house, YA houses, logistics, administration, family program / rites of passage, overnight staff

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Industry experience and experience working with adolescents of a similar population
  • Experience in supervision and able to work with students in crisis
  • Experience with crisis prevention
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to drive manual vehicles
  • Basic computer skills
  • Requires ability to be a team player, to form mutually respectful relationships with staff and students to grow professionally in meeting the challenges of this position
  • Able to work with a team of professionals and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
  • Able to lean into challenges and give 100% while at work
  • Ability to pass a thorough background check, drug screen; annual physical and TB clearance required
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or a minimum 5 years relevant experience

WORK HOURS

  • This position is essentially a FT position 40 hours a week.
    However, to effectively supervise the direct care workers some off schedule hours will be necessary in order to do on-site visits when the direct care workers (guides, logistics, wellness, clinical support) are working. This position also requires being On-call for after hours/weekend emergencies.
  • Must be able to report to program within 30-45 minutes when in Manager on Call role in the case of emergency, must be able to stay on site as needed.

With or without reasonable accommodation, the physical and mental requirements of this job may include the following: seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing clearly. Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, frequent sitting, standing and walking, may be required for long periods of time and may involve climbing stairs, walking up inclines and on uneven terrain. Additional physical requirements may include, frequent lifting and or moving up to 50 pounds.
