Pacific Quest Incorporates Group Therapy for Teens

Pacific Quest Incorporates Group Therapy for Teens

Do you have a troubled teen who is struggling to connect with his peers? Maybe you have tried several types of therapy and medication, and your hope is fading. Many teens struggle to cope with overwhelming aspects of life which can leave you feeling at a loss for what to do. Group therapy for teens might help.

The team at Pacific Quest wants you to know that you are not alone. Let us help steer your youth into a healthy direction with our wilderness therapy program. We specialize in creating life-long, sustainable habits and empowering your child to be the best version of themselves. Find out how group therapy for teens can be the key to success in your child’s rehabilitation!

What Is Group Therapy for Teens?

Group therapy developed as a way for people suffering from similar issues to collectively discuss their frustrations and offer a support network. They are usually designed to focus on a single issue—this is more common in adult group therapy sessions—but can vary.

This type of therapy is often used in addition to one-on-one sessions to problem solve and connect. At Pacific Quest, we use group therapy for teens as a tool to connect our youths and encourage stronger interpersonal skills and improve the overall relationships of our students.

Since teens struggle with a wide variety of new challenges, this can be a great way to process emotions in a healthy, safe way while learning from their peers. Learn more about group therapy for teens and how it works.

What are the benefits of group therapy for teens?

Group therapy for teens is unique because it focuses on shared struggles and life experiences. Many adolescents have similar struggles and depend on healthy social interactions from their peers for proper personal development. Group therapy allows them to take the rest of the lessons learned throughout the community living here and build deeper relationships and understanding of themselves as well as the world. Students are even encouraged to lead group sessions to share their feelings and reflect on their experiences and goals.

Some topics shared in group therapy for teens:

  • Peer Pressure
  • Social Media Addiction
  • Adoption
  • Drug Use
  • Dating Pressures
  • Family Life
  • Etc.

Connecting the Dots: Incorporating group therapy for teens at our facility

At Pacific Quest, our goal is to help empower troubled youths to build life-long positive, sustainable habits. There are a few specific ways we aim to do this:

  • Specialized Therapy Sessions: Each student has two individual and two group therapy sessions per week that are carefully crafted to each student’s unique neurodevelopmental needs. One of the ways we use group therapy for teens is to encourage stronger communication skills and work through personal challenges.
  • Qualified Clinicians: You can rest assured your child’s needs are in the compassionate hands of clinicians who have received either a master’s degree or doctorate in their field.
  • Incorporating the Environment: Since Pacific Quest is located on the beautiful island of Hawai’i, we aim to incorporate the environment into our therapy. Many of our therapy sessions are often held while working in our sustainable garden, near the ocean, walking through the woods, and more.

See The Success For Yourself!

Pacific Quest is proud to partner with the University of New Hampshire and the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs—an organization that studies and evaluates the overall effectiveness of wilderness therapy—to monitor the outcome from our program. Out of the 450 alumni families that participated in the study, 90-95% of them saw major success within key areas of social interaction, mood improvement, and social behaviors! You can see the positive results for yourself here.
